What is Solar PV

Sunlight in. Electricity out.

Solar PV panels turn daylight into electricity for your home. When the sun is shining, you use what you generate first — running your appliances, heating your water, charging your car — instead of buying it from the grid. Anything you don’t use can be stored in a battery for the evening, or exported back to the grid under the Smart Export Guarantee for a per-unit payment.

What you get

A complete solar system.

Every Bright Nest install is delivered as one integrated package — designed, supplied, installed and warrantied by us.

Tier-1 solar panels

We install MCS-approved panels from leading tier-1 manufacturers — 400W+ monocrystalline with 25-year performance warranty.

Hybrid inverter

Hybrid inverters from Sigenergy or Fox ESS — battery-ready from day one, so you can add storage later without re-engineering the system.

Battery storage (optional)

Add a Sigenergy or Fox ESS battery to store daytime generation for evening use. Most households use 60–80% of their own solar with a battery.

Live monitoring

Track generation, consumption and savings from your phone. See exactly when your system pays you back.

Government funding

You could qualify for free or funded upgrades.

The Warm Homes: Local Grant, Boiler Upgrade Scheme and ECO4 can cover some — or all — of the cost of your home energy improvements. We handle every step of the funding application on your behalf.

How it works

From free quote to first sunshine.

Most installs complete within 4–6 weeks of your free property survey. Here’s exactly what happens.

01

Free survey & quote

We visit your property, assess roof pitch / orientation / shading, and design a system that’s right for your usage. You get a fixed-price quote with expected generation and payback.

02

MCS design & paperwork

We complete the MCS design, register the install, and handle DNO notification with your local network operator. SEG export tariff application happens at the same time.

03

Installation

Typical residential install is 1–2 days on site. Our MCS-certified installers do scaffold, mounting, panels, inverter, and electrical commissioning in one visit.

04

Commissioning & MCS certificate

System is commissioned, monitoring app set up, and your MCS certificate issued — this is what unlocks SEG payments and proves the install meets MCS 3005 standard.

Why Bright Nest

MCS-certified, in-house.

We don’t subcontract installs to third parties. Every Bright Nest solar system is designed by our retrofit team, fitted by our own MCS-certified installers, and warrantied by us. One company. One point of accountability.

MCS Cert No. 270527

Bright Nest Energy is MCS-certified for Solar PV Design and Installation under Certificate No. 270527, issued by British Assessment Bureau (UKAS 8289). Every install lodges a valid MCS Installation Certificate.

Tier-1 components only

We install panels and inverters from manufacturers we’ve vetted for long-term reliability — Sigenergy and Fox ESS for inverters, tier-1 monocrystalline panels with 25-year performance warranties.

TrustMark registered

Every install is lodged under TrustMark — the government-endorsed quality scheme. You’re protected by their Financial Protection and Dispute Resolution mechanisms from day one.

FAQ

Common questions, straight answers.

Costs depend on your roof size, orientation, system specification, and whether you add battery storage. We give every homeowner a fixed-price quote after a free no-obligation property survey — no estimates that change later.

Most of our customers cut their grid electricity use by 50–70% with solar alone, and up to 85–90% when paired with a home battery. Real savings depend on your usage pattern, roof orientation and tariff — we model your specific situation as part of the quote.

For the vast majority of UK homes, solar PV is covered by Permitted Development — no planning application required. The exceptions are listed buildings, conservation areas and some flats. We check this for you before quoting and handle any required notifications.

A standard residential install takes 1–2 days on site. Scaffold typically goes up the day before and comes down a day or two after. You don’t need to be home for the full duration — we coordinate access and keep disruption minimal.

25-year performance warranty on Tier-1 panels, 10–12 years on inverters, and a 5-year workmanship guarantee from Bright Nest. As an MCS-certified installer (MCS Cert No. 270527), we’re also covered by the MCS Consumer Code via TrustMark.

You can absolutely add a battery later — our installs are battery-ready by default. That said, adding it during the original install is usually 10–15% cheaper than retrofitting, because the inverter, wiring and commissioning are done once.

Solar panels still generate on overcast days, just at reduced output — typically 10–25% of peak. UK systems are sized assuming British weather, so the annual generation figure in your quote already accounts for cloudy days and short winter daylight.

Yes — completely. We notify your DNO (electricity network operator), submit the MCS certificate, register the install with TrustMark, and provide all documents you need for SEG (Smart Export Guarantee) tariff applications. You don’t lift a paperwork finger.
