Funding and Grants

Government funding can cover some or all of the cost of your home energy improvements. We handle the entire process — from eligibility checks to installation.

Available Government Schemes

The UK Government offers several funding programmes to help homeowners and landlords improve the energy efficiency of their properties. Bright Nest Energy is approved to deliver measures under all of the following schemes.

Home Upgrade Grant (HUG2)

The Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 provides funding for energy efficiency improvements and low-carbon heating in homes that are not connected to the gas grid. The scheme targets properties with an EPC rating of D, E, F, or G and is administered by local authorities across England.

What It Covers

Insulation measures (loft, cavity wall, external wall, underfloor), air source heat pumps, solar PV, and heating controls. Multiple measures can be combined in a single project.

Who Qualifies

Homeowners with properties off the gas grid, an EPC of D or below, and a household income below £36,000 per year (or receiving qualifying benefits).

How to Apply

Contact Bright Nest Energy for a free eligibility check. We manage the entire application process with your local authority on your behalf.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers grants of up to £7,500 towards the cost of replacing fossil fuel heating systems with low-carbon alternatives such as air source heat pumps. The scheme is available to homeowners in England and Wales.

What It Covers

Air source heat pumps (grant of £7,500), ground source heat pumps (grant of £7,500), and biomass boilers in select cases. The grant is applied as an upfront discount.

Who Qualifies

Homeowners replacing an existing fossil fuel heating system (gas, oil, LPG, electric). The property must have a valid EPC with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity insulation.

How to Apply

Bright Nest Energy, as an MCS-certified installer, applies for the grant on your behalf through Ofgem. You simply approve the quote.

Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)

The Great British Insulation Scheme helps households across Great Britain access discounted or fully funded insulation improvements. The scheme targets both low-income households and those in the least energy-efficient homes.

What It Covers

Cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, flat roof insulation, solid wall insulation, and underfloor insulation. Measures are typically fully funded for qualifying households.

Who Qualifies

Households receiving qualifying benefits (such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit, or Child Tax Credit), or living in EPC-rated D to G homes in Council Tax bands A to D in England.

How to Apply

Contact us with your details and we will verify your eligibility within 48 hours. If you qualify, we coordinate the survey, installation, and compliance paperwork.

The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund supports social housing providers in improving the energy performance of their stock to at least EPC Band C. Bright Nest Energy works as a delivery partner for housing associations and local authorities under this scheme.

What It Covers

Whole-house retrofit packages including insulation, heating upgrades, ventilation, and renewable energy installations following PAS 2035 methodology.

Who Qualifies

Social housing landlords (councils and housing associations) with stock rated below EPC Band C. The fund is accessed through competitive bidding rounds.

How to Apply

Housing providers can contact Bright Nest Energy to discuss delivery partnerships. We provide full technical assessments, PAS 2035 coordination, and installation services.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I qualify for government funding?

Eligibility depends on your property type, EPC rating, heating system, household income, and whether you receive qualifying benefits. Contact Bright Nest Energy for a free, no-obligation eligibility check and we will identify every scheme you qualify for.

Do I have to pay anything towards the work?

In many cases, the full cost of the improvements is covered by the funding scheme. Some schemes may require a contribution depending on your circumstances. We will always explain any costs upfront before any work begins.

How long does the funding application take?

Application processing times vary by scheme and local authority. Typically, you can expect 2 to 6 weeks from initial enquiry to approval. Bright Nest Energy manages the entire process to minimise delays.

Can I combine measures from different schemes?

Yes. In many cases, multiple measures can be installed under a single scheme or across complementary schemes. For example, you might receive insulation through GBIS and a heat pump through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

What happens after the installation?

All installations are lodged with TrustMark, guaranteeing the work and providing consumer protection. Renewable energy systems are also registered with MCS, enabling access to the Smart Export Guarantee tariff.

Do I need to own my home to access funding?

Most schemes are available to homeowners and some private landlords. Social housing schemes like SHDF are accessed through your housing provider. Tenants should speak to their landlord about applying on their behalf.

What is an EPC and why does it matter?

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rates your property from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). Many government schemes require an EPC of D or below to qualify. If you do not have a current EPC, we can arrange one for you.

Is Bright Nest Energy approved to deliver government-funded work?

Yes. We are MCS Certified, TrustMark Registered, and PAS 2030 and PAS 2035 compliant. These accreditations are mandatory for delivering work under HUG2, GBIS, BUS, and SHDF.
